Who should be getting the Flu Vaccine?

Flu season is generally from October through March with January-February being the peak.  Generally, the indications for influenza vaccination include:

  1. Children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years
  2. dults older than 50 years
  3. People of any age with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, respiratory problems, or cardiac problems.
  4. Pregnant women
  5. People living in nursing homes or other long term care facilities
  6. Healthcare workers
  7. Household contacts of people at high risk for complications of the flu (people falling into catagories 1-6 above
  8. Household contacts of children under the age of 6 months
  9. Anyone who requests the flu vaccine to prevent infection and transmission.
